Reminder to Takbir
Promised Link: a more detailed entry on virtues and practices of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, from Muslimmatters.org
We’re on the second day of Dhul-Hijjah (the month of Hajj), which is the second of the ten best days of the year. A reminder to revive one particularly neglected Sunnah during these days – reciting the takbir:
Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar; la ilaha illalah; Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar; wa lillahil hamd
Translation: Allah (God) is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest; and to Allah belongs all praise.
Brothers, don’t be afraid to do it out loud – it’s quite a liberating experience!
Example of the takbir
This was recorded on the morning of Eid-ul Fitr at the Sacred Mosque in the city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia
